I'm Jackie Watters (they/them), a graduate student studying hydrology at the Rutgers Department of Earth and Planetary Science. I use remote sensing and geophysics to study groundwater in environments ranging from ancient Mars to modern Antarctica. How long did a sea linger on ancient Mars? How does subsurface structure control water pathways? What causes seasonal melts in shallow groundwater in Antarctica?

My current research focuses on using remote sensing, geomorphology, and modeling to better understand ancient interactions between groundwater and putative hydrothermal vents in the Eridania sea on Mars about 4 billion years ago.
