The Upward Bound Math-Science Pre-College Program at Rutgers University is designed to assist and motivate first-generation, low-income high school students, preparing them for college admission and supporting them in completing their degrees. Lydia DiMattia, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, was recently selected to speak on a panel discussing her experiences as a female, first-generation college student from a low socioeconomic background. She underscored the program's significance in breaking down multifaceted barriers faced by first-generation students and by promoting awareness and inclusivity in higher education.
