Gail devoted her 50-year career to the study of sedimentary processes and stratigraphic records of glacial, coastal, tidal, fluvial, wetland, spring, lacustrine, eolian and soil environments. Her interests include the interpretation of ancient depositional environments and landscape reconstruction, as well as geological applications to archaeology and paleoanthropology. Gail’s research included input from 39 graduate students and innumerable colleagues. She retired from teaching in 2019.
