Emily Nicholson Receives Two Scholarships from SEG

ENicholson Headshot20220620EPS graduate student, Emily Nicholson, received two scholarships, the SEG Foundation Scholarship and the Norman and Shirley Domenico Scholarship, from the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG), totaling $3,000.00 for the 2022-2023 academic year. SEG Scholarships encourage the study of geophysics and related geosciences in universities around the world. Emily is pursuing a MS degree working with Greg Mountain on her thesis that focuses on the Eirik Drift, a sediment drift located off the Southern Greenland coast. This thesis focus is to improve understanding of: 1. changes in the strength and location of abyssal currents linked to global changes in climate (i.e. glacial-interglacial variations); 2. the cyclicity of sedimentary sequences as indicators of change in marine sediment accumulation; and, 3. the complexity and variability of current-controlled deposits in deep-sea environments. Emily will be a Teaching Assistant in the department in the 22-23 academic year teaching Sedimentary Geology lab and Bob Kopp’s new course "The Climate Crisis and How to Solve It".
