AnirudhHeadshotSenior undergraduate student, Anirudh (Ani) Patel (SAS Class of 2022) has been admitted to graduate school at Columbia University.  Ani is a double major in Physics and Philosophy and conducted his Senior Honors Thesis under the direction of Dr. Katherine Bermingham.  In the Fall of 2022, he will begin his Ph.D in physics at Columbia University where he hopes to research topics in high-energy astrophysics. In particular, he is interested in the origin of the heaviest elements in the universe. These “heavy" elements (elements with more protons than iron) can be produced in neutron-rich astrophysical sites such as binary neutron star mergers and rotating magnetars. He is also interested in exploring elementary particle interactions in these sites, especially with neutrinos, which are produced alongside heavy elements as neutrons decay.

Congratulations Ani and best of luck at Columbia!
